University of Toronto Scholarships in Canada for International Applicants

There are up to 1000 admission scholarships available for students starting their studies in 2018-2019. Outstanding domestic and international secondary school students are being considered automatically for these awards on the basis of their average at the time of admission.

University of Toronto Scholars Programme is designed to reward students of any nationality who demonstrate the highest academic excellence and potential.

Broadcasting is the distribution of audio or video content to a dispersed audience via any electronic mass communications medium, but typically one using the electromagnetic spectrum (radio waves), in a one-to-many model. Broadcasting began with AM radio, which came into popular use around 1920 with the spread of vacuum tube radio transmitters and receivers. Before this, all forms of electronic communication (early radio, telephone, and telegraph) were one-to-one, with the message intended for a single recipient. The term broadcasting evolved from its use as the agricultural method of sowing seeds in a field by casting them broadly about.^[3] It was later adopted for describing the widespread distribution of information by printed materials^[4] or by telegraph.^[5] Examples applying it to "one-to-many" radio transmissions of an individual station to multiple listeners appeared as early as 1898.^[6]

Over the air broadcasting is usually associated with radio and television, though in recent years both radio and television transmissions have begun to be distributed by cable (cable television). The receiving parties may include the general public or a relatively small subset; the point is that anyone with the appropriate receiving technology and equipment (e.g., a radio or television set) can receive the signal. The field of broadcasting includes both government-managed services such as public radio, community radio and public television, and private commercial radio and commercial television.

Community broadcasters can be generally defined as those which are independent, not-for-profit, and governed by and in the service of the communities they serve. They form an important “third pillar” of media, alongside commercial and public broadcasters, and are a crucial part of a healthy, pluralistic media sector.

 

The starting point for creating and running a regulatory system which facilitates the establishment and functioning of a robust community broadcasting sector is to have a clear understanding of what is covered by the term ‘community broadcaster’. Clear definitions are particularly important in relation to community broadcasting given that good practice is to allocate certain benefits, often including funding, to such broadcasters. The absence of clear definitions and understandings can, as a result, lead to attempts by certain actors to try to obscure the core meaning of the concept of community broadcasting so that they can also have access to these benefits.

In the 50s, Nigeria made history as the first African country to host a television station and since then, the country has moved on to be the largest television station network in the continent.
The numbers of the privately owned television stations has risen and most of these television stations are located in the commercial cities of Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu and others. With more than 10 television stations, Lagos city now has the highest number of television stations in a city in Africa.
Broadcasting  is  very  important  in  Africa  because  majority  of  Africans  get  their  information,  education and entertainment chiefly from electronic media. Because of this vital role of broadcasting in developing countries, television media have become the most controlled for both technical and political reasons.
Broadcasting is the distribution of audio and video contents to a dispersed audience via any audio-visual medium. Receiving parties may include the general public or a relatively large subset thereof. JAMB 2018 UTME Mock Week - Enter Now!

JAMB had promised to conduct the 2018 UTME Mock Exam on the 1st Week of February. In fact, it was earlier scheduled to hold between January 22nd and 24th. Here we are; it's the first week of February! We're just as eager to know the exact official date for the JAMB Mock for the 2018 UTME, just as every other JAMB Candidate.

Yoruba Language Now A Compulsory Admission Requirement In Lagos State Tertiary Institutions

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode last Thursday signed seven bills into law among which is the Yoruba Language Preservation and Promotion Law.

With this Law in place, any student who wish to apply for admission into University of Lagos or other higher institutions in Lagos State will need to have a Credit Pass in Youruba Language regardless of their intended course of study.

In addition, all state-owned tertiary institutions are to incorporate the use of Yoruba Language in the General Studies (GNS) courses.

The Law equally stated that any school in Lagos State that fails to comply with the provisions of Section 2 commits an offence and is liable on first violation to issuance of warning and on subsequent violation be closed down and also pay a fine of N500,000.

This has attracted mixed reactions from the public. While some are in support of this development, others are not for obvious reasons. Whats your take on this?
